The Claudettes
Six albums into their lauded career, the Claudettes (of Chicago) continue to put a fascinating new spin on American roots music. Blues and R&B are laced with punk spirit and film-noir moods to create the band's singular "garage cabaret" sound. The Claudettes have earned worldwide acclaim with their recordings and concerts that are equal parts heart, musicianship, and theatrical flair. Force-of-nature vocalist Rachel Williams (who dominates the stage like a glam-rock rebirth of Annie Lennox) and renowned pianist/songwriter Johnny Iguana join the positively heroic rhythm section of Zach Verdoon (bass, guitar, vocals) and Michael Caskey (drums). Outside the Claudettes, Iguana has toured with Junior Wells and Otis Rush, played on many Grammy-nominated albums and recorded with Buddy Guy, Junior Wells, Derek Trucks, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Johnny Winter, and more. Johnny is also composer of the score for the Emmy-winning smash FX/Hulu series "The Bear" and has released two solo albums on the eminent Chicago blues/jazz label Delmark Records. 2025-11-07 22:00:00 -0600

SPT Theatre - Season 18 - Old Enough to get Hitched
Every couple of months this group of misfits and wacky funsters gets together in a room...a Writers' Room in fact...and writes a series of original comedy sketches. (Okay, sometimes they're poignant and maybe even a little heart warming but we won't admit that.) Anyway, out of this secular conclave of tumultuous tom-foolery will grow 15-20 theatrical pieces that, when wed to the magic of SPT's raucous rock and roll, makes for an evening of live entertainment unlike any other in Eastern Iowa. The writers are, for the most part, also the actors in the show and are joined by guest actors, writers, musicians, poets, and dancers drawn from our ridiculously talented arts community throughout each season. The Writers' Room concept has been selling out houses five times a season for 10 years now...so they must have struck the right chord! 2025-11-07 22:00:00 -0600CSPS HallCedar Rapids25 -

Liz Hogg w/ Jake Stack
About Liz Hogg American guitarist and composer Liz Hogg has captured attention with her dynamic and original approach, touring eleven countries and performing at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall and Casa da Musica. Critics have lauded her as “uniquely her own, writing independent music that doesn’t reflect the trends” (I Heart Noise), while her playing is praised as “strong, precise, and powerful” (Bushwick Music Daily), featuring a “more distinctive and original approach that includes quickly-strummed chords, chiming arpeggios, and rapid-fire picking” (Geoff Cabin). An award-winning musician who was the first American to win a performance fellowship at the Lanciano International Guitar Festival in Italy, Hogg is a prolific artist with nine full-length albums and a diverse repertoire–from premiering her mostly-eclectic works to performing on a variety of instruments like mandolin and theorbo, with her recordings garnering reviews from The New York Times and NME. About Jake Stack Jake Stack is a singer-songwriter whose journey through life has been as dynamic as his music. Growing up, Jake and his friends started a punk rock garage band (The Unincorporated) while simultaneously pursuing his passion for hockey, playing as a goaltender for teams throughout the country. When his hockey career ended, Jake found himself drawn towards another lifelong passion: music. Transitioning from the rink to the stage, Jake dedicated himself to honing his craft as a musician. He delved into songwriting, pouring his experiences and complicated emotions into heartfelt and relatable compositions. Alongside his pursuit of music, Jake earned a bachelors degree in psychology and philosophy - whose influences are clearly present in his work. Today, Jake is known for his engaging and personal performances of original songs that blend elements of punk, folk, and indie rock. Beyond the stage, he shares his musical knowledge by teaching guitar and offering private hockey coaching to young athletes. But Jake is not just about music and sports; he’s also a champion of personal growth and resilience. He openly discussed his struggles with mental health and alcohol use. Through his music and his candid honesty, Jake aims to challenge societal norms and shed light on the challenges people face in today’s world. With his authenticity, passion, and dedication to both his art and his community, Jake hopes to inspire others to pursue their passion and prioritize their mental health on their own unique journeys. 2025-11-07 21:00:00 -0600

Henhouse Prowlers
With many of their wildest dreams strung across two decades as an outfit, the Prowlers' sight remains fixed on the future. It’s been 20 years well spent. The kinship between Ben Wright (banjo, vocals), Chris Dollar (guitar, vocals), Jon Goldfine (bass, vocals), and Jake Howard (mandolin, vocals) is palpable, the four having traveled to places most would never predict. Using these experiences as a foundation, there’s truly no limit to where this Chicago-based quartet will go – literally and figuratively. Ever constant in the group's enthralling performances is their ability to showcase their passion for both their craft and our shared humanity. Each member skilled in storytelling, compelling songwriting and intricate instrumentation, they offer intrinsic artistic prowess, fervently building on one another's raw talent. Reverence for tradition coupled with curiosity and innovation lands the Prowlers in a category difficult to define but explosively intriguing around every bend. Their latest record, 'Unravel,' produced by Dark Shadow Recording’s Stephen Mougin (Sam Bush Band) underscores the band's resistance towards being contained, some tunes expressing a modern Americana feel with others nodding to classic country and bluegrass standards. On this newest offering, their trademark four-piece harmonies have only matured in tone and sincerity, their picking ferocious as ever. It’s a testament to their emboldened status as composers, walking fine lines and eschewing strict categorization in favor of experimentation and satisfying their inner artistry. The subject matter largely encircles ever-challenging life on the road, as well as reflections on war, personal quests, the passage of time, and tremendous loss, all rounded out by peaks of joy, lighthearted imagination, and hearts unburdened. Mirroring their worldly touring reality, seemingly no terrain is left untraversed. Weathered and worn, nevertheless brightly shining for all to see, ‘Unravel’ welcomes the listener as though they were an old companion, eager to share their intimate stories of years gone by. But you haven’t really experienced the band until you see them onstage. Audiences will hear tunes from their extensive songbook accompanied by an inspiring narrative and bluegrassy takes on international tunes from their travels, perhaps even in a language they’ve never heard before. To date, the Prowlers have toured 30 countries on 5 continents working with the U.S. State Dept and their own nonprofit, Bluegrass Ambassadors. The group's many life-changing encounters with people and musicians across the globe have shaped their worldview and bolstered the bridges they establish between cultures. Through all ages-friendly workshops, presentations, and a forthcoming documentary, they spread the familiarities discovered in unsuspecting corners of the world, broadcasting what they are certain of: we, as humans, have more in common than we don’t. Time and time again, music demonstrates that, with curiosity towards our fellow humans, beautiful connections can sprout. For the Henhouse Prowlers, the work extends far beyond the stage – they are deeply committed to fostering a more compassionate world. 2025-11-07 21:00:00 -0600
