Event Description

Impact of Exchange: Stories from U.S. Exchange Alumni is an outdoor photo exhibit brought to eastern Iowa by Global Ties Iowa that combines storytelling, international exchange, and public art. Organized in collaboration with the Office of Alumni Affairs at the U.S. Department of State and Photoville, a NYC-based nonprofit, this exhibit features 38 images taken by U.S. citizens during their time abroad on U.S. Government-sponsored or -funded exchange programs. Photos depict scenes of everyday life, community, and nature, and aim to inspire audiences to become future exchange participants. These photos, along with their accompanying stories, are printed on large, photo-vinyl cubes measuring 6-feet tall, and will be traveling to multiple cities across the United States over the course of 2023-2024 in an effort to inspire communities with low rates of exchange participation—based on data from the 2022 Open Doors report—to take part in these programs.

The Impact of Exchange exhibit will travel to the following location:

  • August 9 – September 10, 2024 | Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Hosted in partnership with Global Ties Iowa
National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library
