Japanese Art: Shibori Tie-Dye

Learn the traditional process of shibori indigo dyeing with local artist Lauren Manninen. This technique has been used for thousands of years to create vibrant blue colors and intricate patterns. We will be dyeing a set of kitchen towels (provided) to take home. Students are welcome to bring their own pre-washed white fabric to dye, such as t-shirts, plain cotton fabric, or tote bags, preferably 100% cotton. This class is in partnership with the nonprofit Eastern Iowa Arts Academy (EIAA). A portion of the proceeds go towards supporting EIAA youth scholarships to offer low or no cost music and art programs.
