Event Description

On Wednesday, October 9 at 7:00 p.m., Prairie Lights Bookstore welcomes Royal C. Gardner, Professor of Law, Hugh F. Culverhouse Chair, and Director of the Stetson Institute for Biodiversity Law and Policy, for a reading from his new book Waters of the United States. In this groundbreaking work, Gardner traces the history of the Clean Water Act and the decades of legal and political battles that have defined water protection in America. He examines how recent Supreme Court decisions have narrowed the scope of WOTUS (Waters of the United States) and the profound implications these rulings hold for communities, ecosystems, and the future of environmental policy. Gardner will be joined in conversation by Silvia Secchi, University of Iowa Professor and Mississippi River Basin water research expert, for a timely dialogue that connects national policy shifts to regional and local water challenges. Presented in partnership with the Hubbell Environmental Law Initiative, this event is free and open to the public.
