Event Description

The best part of our bi-weekly meetings is the opportunity to meet and socialize with others. This program will combine socialization with a volunteer craft project making braided fleece dog toys for Horizons AniMeals clients. In our community, AniMeals was created by a Meals on Wheels volunteer who noticed clients sharing their meals with their pets. Together with a Petco employee and two volunteers from the Cedar Valley Humane Society, they started AniMeals in 2000 to help elderly people get pet food and prevent people in need from sacrificing their own well-being for their pets. Horizons, A Family Service Alliance now runs the program after acquiring it in Feb. 2025. AniMeals, currently serving 276 cats and 230 dogs each month, delivers pet food once a month to individuals in Cedar Rapids, Marion and Hiawatha. For Christmas, AniMeals would love to provide clients with toys for their companion pet(s). It really helps make their Christmas special knowing that their pet will have a gift under the tree. A community member has taken care of the cat toys. Our Bridge seniors can help by making braided fleece dog toys; all materials will be provided.
